We namen op 8 & 9 augustus deel aan de tweedaagse 'Chiang Mai Hilltribe Trekking & Eco Adventure'. Het zou een hoogtepunt worden van onze vakantie in Thailand. Zeer aangename gids Pan, die alles in het werk stelde om er een leuke ervaring van te maken. De overnachting vond plaats bij plaatselijke inwoners, midden in de bergen. In alle rust en back-to-basic, maar wel met zeer lekker avondmaal en ontbijt. Tijdens de wandeltochten vergezelde ook Top ons, die in de bergen woont en dus de perfecte gids was voor de 2 tochten door de jungle/bergen/rijstvelden. Zeer praktisch was ook dat je alle bagage in de auto kan laten zodat je dus tijdens de tochten (en het bamboo-raften) enkel mee moest nemen wat je echt nodig had.

One of the absolute highlights of our Thailand trip!

Our family did the 2-day/1-night trekking tour with EcoTrekking Chiang Mai, and it exceeded all our expectations. If you are looking for an authentic experience away from mass tourism, this is it.

The landscapes were simply breathtaking. Hiking through the rice fields, forests and small local villages was an unforgettable experience. The walks were perfectly adapted to the abilities of our children, allowing all of us to enjoy every moment without ever feeling rushed.

A very special thank you goes to our guide Pun (pronounced Pan). He was absolutely outstanding. His English was excellent, he was highly professional, and his knowledge of the local environment was truly impressive. Throughout the trek he explained so much about the fruits growing on the trees, medicinal plants, local agriculture and the daily life of the people living in the mountains. We learned far more than we ever expected.

What made this tour truly exceptional was its authenticity. There are no commercial "show villages" or tourist attractions created just for visitors. Instead, you become a guest of the local community.

We stayed with the wonderful family of our second guide, Top, who welcomed us with incredible warmth and hospitality. During the tour we visited a local school, explored a genuine village market where we didn't see another tourist, enjoyed meals in small local restaurants and experienced everyday life exactly as it is. Those moments became some of our favourite memories of Thailand.

The tour also included swimming in two beautiful waterfalls, which was fantastic after the hikes. We finished the second day with a peaceful bamboo rafting trip, floating quietly down the river while spotting elephants along the riverbank—a magical ending to an unforgettable adventure.

Everything was organised perfectly. We were picked up from our hotel exactly on time and dropped off again afterwards. The entire experience was completely private, seamless and extremely professional.

For our family, this was without any doubt one of the highlights of our entire trip to Thailand. If you're looking for a genuine, local and unforgettable experience rather than a commercial tourist excursion, we cannot recommend EcoTrekking Chiang Mai highly enough.

What a wonderful two-day adventure Pun took us on! We trekked in the jungle, swam at the foot of gorgeous waterfalls, ate wonderful food and tasted delicious coffee, but also met Tamago, the cutest dog ever! Amazing day trip - from food shopping in a local market, scenic drive in large 4x4, village visit incl. a visit to the local school and kindergarten, forest walk, super picnic eating delicious food from banana leaves, including berries from the co-guide’s own fields,  and waterfall visit on way back. Une prise en charge personnalisée grâce à Pun, très à l’écoute. Ma fille de 10 ans et moi même avons fait le trek de 2 jours en décembre 2025, un moment hors du temps et notre meilleur souvenir de Thaïlande. Des paysages et des personnes authentiques, le marché plein de saveurs, des cascades superbes,  des arbres magnifiques...

We did the one day hiking through the Karen hillsides. It was BEAUTIFUL. I felt like I was walking through a painting or some Totoro-esque area. Pan is super cool and knows the trek and area very well. We wish we could’ve stayed the night as the accommodations looked really nice overlooking the valley. Next time :)

We did the two day Doi Inthanon tour with Pan . We had a day walking in the Op Luang National Park in the region of Pan’s ancestral Karen village . We saw Pan’s people harvesting rice and had lunch with some of them . We had a great insight into how people live in this area . No other tourists come here . We stayed in a glamping site set up by the village by a waterfall and ate amazing food . The second day we were taken around the sights of Doi Inthanon National Park . Nous avons passé une super journée avec Pan. Nous avions contacté Thaï eco trek adventure par WhatsApp en disant quels endroits nous souhaitions voir. Il s'est adapté à nos envies, nous a mis à l'aise. Il parle super bien anglais (bien mieux que nous😅), nous a donné beaucoup d'explications. Nous avons déjeuné dans un village Karen et nous nous sommes sentis intégrés et à l'aise grâce à lui. Le programme de la journée était top, l'accompagnement sécurisant. . Nous recommandons à 1000%. Une expérience incroyable, notre meilleur souvenir de 15 jours en Thailande, dépaysant et authentique, grâce à notre guide Pan, adorable, ouvert et généreux : visite d'un marché local sur le chemin de la montagne pour prendre de quoi déjeuner, puis arrivée au fin fond de la campagne thaïlandaise, dans un village Karen accompagné de notre guide et d'un villageois. Nous avons traversé la forêt tropicale pour atteindre le sommet du coin (mont Thajeko) où nous avons déjeuné dans des feuilles de bananier avec une vue spectaculaire sur la vallée, puis descente dans les rizières et traversée des champs avec les cultivateurs de fruits (fruits de la passion, bananes, fruit du jacquier), de café et de légumes (courgettes,  patates douces, laitues, mais,...) et les éleveurs de buffles et de vaches à viande. Arrêt rafraîchissant à une cascade et  arrivée au village où nous avons partagé des fruits frais (mangue, ananas, oranges) avec les villageois. Notre guide parlait très bien anglais et a passé les trajets en voiture à nous nous en apprendre plus sur le mode de vie, les religions, la politique et les pays alentours. Et lors du trek il s'arrêtait à chaque fois qu'il y avait un arbre ou une plante comestible ou médicinale pour nous en expliquer les vertus et l'utilisation par les locaux. Sportif et passionnant !
